Russian, Georgian Foreign Minister Discuss Conflicts

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Georgian counterpart Gela Bezhuashvili met on September 23 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in an information note on Sunday.

?The two officials discussed issues topping the agenda of bilateral ties and prospects of resolution of the conflicts on Georgia?s territory,? the Russia Foreign Ministry said. No other details are reported.

The meeting took place after the Georgia president accused Russia in a speech at the UN General Assembly Session on September 22 of hampering the resolution of secessionist conflicts in Georgia. In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on September 23 that Saakashvili is too emotional and reiterated Russia?s readiness to act as guarantor in the peace process.
