MoD Lists Russian Armaments Withdrawn from Georgia
Russia removed a total of 45 tanks, mainly T-72s, 162 armored vehicles and 52 pieces of artillery equipment from military bases in Batumi and Akhalkalaki during the course of 2006, the Georgian Ministry of Defense (MoD) said on September 20.
A total of 500 military vehicles of various types have also been withdrawn from Georgia, according to the MoD.
So far Russia has complied with commitments made in the March 31, 2006 Sochi agreement to remove military hardware from the Akhalkalaki military base.
The remaining military hardware in the Batumi military base will be withdrawn by October 1, 2007 and military personnel will vacate the Akhalkalaki base in the course of 2007, according to the agreement.
The Headquarters of the Group of Russian Troops in the South Caucasus will be closed down in 2008.
