CoE Observers to Monitor Local Elections
Igor Gaon, Special Representative of the Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General to Georgia, said on September 12 that the CoE will send a 20-member observation mission to monitor the October 5 local self-governance elections in Georgia.
Speaking at a news briefing in Tbilisi, Gaon said that a short-term observer mission will be made up of representatives from 8 countries and will monitor the course of elections in major cities.
The delegation will arrive in Georgia on October 2 and hold talks with the Georgian authorities, the opposition, representatives of the Central Election Commission and international organizations before the elections.
Following the elections the CoE observater mission will provide its assessment. The mission is organized by the Congress of the Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
