Russia Calls on Tbilisi, Tskhinvali for Restraint
The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the Georgian and South Ossetian sides to show ?maximum restraint? and to undertake all possible measures to avoid ?dangerous incidents?, which ?have become very frequent recently.?
Three South Ossetian militia members and one Georgian officer died in a clash in the South Ossetian conflict zone early on September 8 and a shootout was reported near Tskhinvali overnight on September 9.
?The peacekeeping forces deployed in the conflict zone, in cooperation with the OSCE representatives, spare no efforts to keep the situation under control and to avoid the escalation of violence in the zone of their responsibility,? the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Moscow also hailed the September 8 meeting between the Georgian and South Ossetian co-chairmen of the Joint Control Commission, which was held in the conflict zone after the incident which left four men killed and at least two injured.
