Interior Minister Visits Kodori to Oversee Rehabilitation
Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili is currently in upper Kodori Gorge to oversee rehabilitation works in the area, Georgian media sources reported on August 17.
President Saakashvili made Merabishvili responsible for the completion of major infrastructure construction in the gorge by October.
?We are doing everything very fast,? Merabishvili told reporters in the village of Azhara in upper Kodori Gorge.
He said the construction of a bank, school, hospital and an installment housing units is being undertaken in the village.
Tbilisi-based Mze television reported on August 17 that the Abkhaz government-in-exile is expected to hold its first session in upper Kodori Gorge in late September, while secessionist authorities in Sokhumi celebrate the day of the ?Liberation of Sokhumi,? commemorating the day that Georgian troops were forced out of the Abkhaz capital on 27 September 1993.
The Georgian authorities? decision to relocate the currently Tbilisi-based Abkhaz government-in-exile to upper Kodori Gorge has triggered concerns in Sokhumi, which has threatened to withdraw from peace talks.
