Russian Deputy Foreign Minister to Visit Abkhazia

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin will visit breakaway Abkhazia on August 7-8, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on August 5.
 
During the visit Karasin will hold talks with Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh, Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba, Commander of the CIS Peacekeeping Forces in the conflict zone Sergey Chaban, and representatives of the UN Observation Mission in Georgia. 
 
The visit is a part of Russian diplomatic efforts to resume the Georgian-Abkhaz negotiating process, in which the Russian Federation acts as a mediating party and as a member of the Group of Friends of the UN Secretary-General on Georgia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in its informational note.
