UNOMIG Calls for Immediate Georgian-Abkhaz Talks
UN Observers Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) has called on the Georgian and Abkhaz sides ?to constructively engage as soon as possible in dialogue within the existing peace process mechanisms, while avoiding actions and rhetoric which could further escalate tension.?
UNOMIG said that despite an initial agreement to hold a session of the Georgian-Abkhaz Coordinating Council in Sokhumi on August 2, ?the session was postponed at the last minute, because the sides could not reach an understanding on the list of participants in the meeting.?
The Abkhaz side accused Tbilisi of changing list of negotiators, while the Georgian side denied the accusations, saying that the composition of the delegation was just a pretext for refusal.
