Russia Removes Tanks from Akhalkalaki Base

A trainload of ten T-72 battle tanks, two BMP infantry fighting vehicles and 96 tons of various munitions from the Russian military base in Akhalkalaki departed from Tsalka for the Russian Federation via Azerbaijan on August 1, the Georgian Defense Ministry reported.
 
The next train will leave Georgia in a week, according to the Georgian Defense Ministry. 
 
The withdrawal process from the Akhalkalaki military base should be completed before December 31, 2007, according to a March 31 Georgian-Russian agreement.
