Fugitive Warlord Charged with Treason

The General Prosecutor?s Office has brought criminal charges against wanted rebel warlord Emzar Kvitsiani for high treason.

?Emzar Kvitsiani has been charged with plotting a coup against the authorities, which qualifies as high treason,? Deputy Prosecutor General Kakha Koberidze, said on July 28.

Earlier the General Prosecutor?s Office charged Kvitsiani for illegal possession of arms and the formation of an illegal armed group.

Kvitsiani, who, as official reports say, is currently in the breakaway Abkhaz capital Sokhumi, announced his defiance towards the central authorities on July 22.
