MFA Denies Georgian Violation of Moscow Agreement
The Georgian Foreign Ministry made a statement that Interior Ministry units are presently engaged in a police operation in upper Kodori Gorge against ?organized crime in full compliance with Georgian laws and the international commitments undertaken by Georgia.?
Russia accused Georgia of sending troops to Kodori Gorge, which is a violation of the 1994 Moscow Agreement on Ceasefire and Separation of Forces.
?The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to clarify that this Agreement does not restrict the presence of police forces in Kodori Gorge and the implementation of measures in this part of Georgia with a view to maintaining order,? the statement reads.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed that the police operation does not extend to territory controlled by the Abkhaz secessionist authorities.
