Security Chief: Kodori Operation will Apparently End Today

Kote Kemularia, Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council, said on July 26 that the ?anti-criminal operation? taking place in Kodori Gorge against rebel militia groups will ?apparently be over today.?

?The anti-criminal operation is underway according to plan, with minimal negative consequences. The operation is being carried out with a high level of professionalism,? Kote Kemularia said.

Kemularia was speaking with reporters in the village of Khaishi in the Svaneti region, which borders breakaway Abkhazia.

Meanwhile, Georgian media sources reported yet unconfirmed information that Emzar Kvitsiani, leader of the rebel militia group Monadire (Hunter), was wounded in clashes with government forces.

The Secretary of the National Security Council declined to comment on this report.
