Police arrested at least five activists from the advocacy group, Equality Institute while they were protesting outside the president’s office on April 23, against what they call it, “police violence” and “police state.”

Lasha Chkhartishvili of the Equality Institute is among detainees. He is a majoritarian MP candidate nominated by the nine-party opposition bloc in the Ozurgeti single-mandate constituency in western Georgia.

They were arrested after they wrote graffiti reading “down with the police state” outside the president’s office. Police officers at the scene said the activists were arrested because of public disorder offense.
