Abkhaz Say Downed Drone Debris Found

Debris from a downed Georgian spy plane, allegedly shot down by the Abkhaz side on April 20, was found on Monday, Gali Kupalba, the breakaway region’s deputy defense minister, said, according to the Abkhaz news agency, Apsnipress.

Examination of the debris, according to Kupalba, revealed that it was a medium-sized unmanned aerial vehicle produced by the Israeli company, Elbit Systems, in 2006. He said that a similar type of drone was shot down by the Abkhaz side on March 18. He also said that the serial number of the aircraft had been identified, but he didn’t give it. Later on Monday the Russian television stations showed debris of the aircraft.

The Georgian Defense Ministry’s press office denied on April 20 that one of its spy planes had been shot down and said the report was "misinformation."
