UK Concerned over Russia’s Ties with Abkhazia, S. Ossetia
The United Kingdom is concerned that Russia’s decision to establish official links with breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia will only increase tensions in the region, Sir Brian Fall, the UK Special Representative for the South Caucasus, said during talks with Temur Iakobashvili, the Georgian state minister for reintegration, in London on April 16.
Along with other issues, President Saakashvili’s peace plan for Abkhazia was also discussed during the talks at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
“Sir Brian Fall welcomed the new proposals and hoped that they would lead to the resumption of a meaningful dialogue,“ the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said in a statement.
