26 attorney lawyers who did not appear at a court hearings scheduled for April 7 will be fined for unjustified absence, a spokesperson for the Tbilisi City Court, Maia Javreishvili, said.

Dozens of lawyers practicing in the field of criminal code launched a three-day strike on April 7. The move is a protest against, what the lawyers call, turning a judiciary into “a rubber stamp” of the prosecutor’s office.

“A strike organized by lawyers is in fact a boycott, which has proved unsuccessful, in reality,” Maia Javreishvili, spokesperson of the Tbilisi City Court said and added that most of the court hearings scheduled for April 7 was held and many lawyers attended the trials.
