Burjanadze Comments on Medvedev

Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said she hoped the Russian president-elect, Dimitry Medvedev, would “have the desire” to democratize Russia.

“It [Medvedev’s victory] was not a surprise,” Burjanadze told journalists on March 3. “I hope he [Medvedev] will want improved Russo-Georgian relations and that he will want, not only that Russia be a large country, but a democratic one, too, with which it would be desirable to have friendship and neighborly relations.”
