Opposition, Ruling Party Resume Talks

Opposition leaders are meeting with Parliamentary Chairperson, Nino Burjanadze, and other lawmakers from the ruling party to negotiate on public TV’s new board of trustees.

Levan Gachechiladze, Giorgi Khaindrava (both individual members of the nine-party opposition coalition) and Gia Tortladze of the Movement for United Georgia, also part of the nine-party coalition, as well as MP Davit Gamkrelidze, leader of the New Rights Party and MP Zurab Tkemaladze, the leader of Industrialist Party participate in talks. Lawmakers, Giga Bokeria, Pavle Kublashvili and Givi Targamadze, represent the ruling party.

The meeting comes after the nine-party opposition said on February 22 that it was calling off planned protest rallies and hunger strike to resume talks with the authorities.

The opposition and the ruling party have to select a shortlist of 27 persons out of 235 who have applied for membership in the public TV board of trustees.
