Ruling Party Non-committal on Opposition Demands
A joint twelve-party opposition memorandum – containing 17 key demands ? has elicited so far little reaction from lawmakers from the ruling National Movement Party.
MP Irina Kurdadze, a spokesperson for Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, merely said on January 30 that Burjanadze was ?familiarizing? herself with the memorandum. ?The Parliamentary Chairperson is always willing to engage in dialogue,? she added.
Gigi Tsereteli, a ruling party lawmaker, was equally non-committal. He said some issues raised by the opposition could be agreed upon, but not ?all the issues.?
The opposition has warned of ?permanent protest rallies? starting from February 15 if their demands are not met.
