Saakashvili in Lead with 53% of Votes – CEC

Mikheil Saakashvili is leading with 53.38%; followed by Levan Gachechiladze of the nine-party opposition coalition with 25.66%, according to a chart posted on the Central Election Commission (CEC) website.

The chart is based on results from 3,439 precincts, out of a total 3,512.

Levan Tarkhnishvili, the CEC chairman, however, said when announcing first official preliminary results on January 9 that based on data from 3,482 precincts, Saakashvili had 52.21%.

In another anomaly, the CEC still hasn’t posted on its website vote summary protocols from some precincts. Of the 59 precincts in Bolnisi district only one has been posted. The CEC has cited unspecified technical problems.
