Ruling Party Dismisses Patarkatsishvili ‘Media Hype’

Business tycoon and presidential candidate Badri Patarkatsishvili’s “media hype” is just an attempt to justify his unwillingness to return to Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili’s campaign headquarters said on December 21.

The Patarkatsishvili campaign alleged on December 20 that the authorities had fabricated evidence in support of the planned arrest of the presidential candidate upon his arrival in Georgia.

“Such an allegation has two goals: firstly, to justify Patarkatsishvili’s non-arrival in Georgia and secondly, to attract more attention to his candidacy, which he would not have otherwise,” State Minister Davit Bakradze, a Saakashvili campaign spokesman, said at a press conference on December 21.

Further comment on the issue, he said, was unnecessary and would be unworthy of the Saakashvili campaign.
