Government to Unveil New Draft 2008 Budget
New budgetary targets for next year will be unveiled after December 14 when the government withdraws from Parliament an initial draft 2008 state budget, Gia Khuroshvili, the government?s parliamentary secretary, told Civil.Ge on Tuesday.
The government, headed by former Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli, submitted the draft 2008 budget to Parliament for consideration in October. New Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze, however, said after his nomination was approved on November 22 that the initial draft needed revision to make it ?more socially oriented.?
PM Gurgenidze said at the time that defense spending cuts were on the cards in 2008. He did not, however, give exact targets.
