Georgian, Polish, Lithuanian Presidents Meet in Tbilisi

Presidents of Georgia, Poland and Lithuania, Mikheil Saakashvili, Lech Kaczynski and Valdas Adamkus, respectively, held meeting in Tbilisi on November 23.

President Saakashvili said that visit by the Presidents of Georgia?s two ?brotherly states? was ?a gesture of huge support towards the Georgian people? in the light of ?difficult times? Georgia has experienced in recent weeks.

The three Presidents made statements for the press after the meeting, without taking questions from journalists.

He said that Lech Kaczynski arrived in Georgia despite the fact that the Polish parliament?s lower house, or Sejm, was taking a vote of confidence on the new government on Friday.

?This might be the major political event in the Poland?s political agenda, but despite this President Kaczynski has arrived here to support us and we will never forget it,? Saakashvili said.

Saakashvili also said that the Lithuanian presidential plane was out of order last night, but despite it ?they got a new plane? and the Lithuanian President could anyway arrive in Georgia.

Saakashvili also said that Poland and Lithuania ?are Georgia?s major guides to Euro-Atlantic integration.?

President Kaczynski, who during his visit also met with the opposition leaders, said that it was very important decision to hold early presidential elections. ?I am sure Georgia will pass this important test successfully,? Kaczynski said. ?Although there might be some problems on this road? I am sure Georgia is on the right track.?

President Adamkus pointed out that the November 7 events in Tbilisi ?created some of the doubts? about Georgia?s democracy. But he added that these events occurred because of people?s sincere intention to improve their lives, which in turn was part of democracy, so ?Georgia is exercising freedom of democracy.?

The Lithuanian President also said that after a brief conversation with President Saakashvili he was confident that Georgia was willing to have genuinely free and fair elections.
