Industrialist Party May Support MP Gamkrelidze’s Presidential Bid

MP Zurab Tkemaladze of the Industrialist Party said his party would probably support leader of New Rights Party MP Davit Gamkrelidze’s bid for presidency.

“At this point, Mr. [Gogi] Topadze [beer magnate and founder of the Industrialist Party] has proposed to support Mr. Gamkrelidze’s candidacy,” MP Tkemaladze said in an interview with the Georgian daily Rezonansi. “We will still continue consultations about this issue.”

MP Davit Gamkrelidze, the opposition New Rights leader, and Gia Maisashvili, leader of the opposition Party of Future have voiced their ambitions to challenge President Saakashvili in early polls, which have been proposed to be held for January 5.

Badri Patarkatsishvili, a business tycoon who has been suspected of coup plotting by the General Prosecutor’s Office, told Reuters on November 9 that he “seriously thinks” of running for presidency.
