2007 State Spending Increased
The Parliament approved the budgetary amendment envisaging the increase in the 2007 state spending by GEL 350 million (over USD 213), with the lion?s share ? GEL 224 million ? going to the Defense Ministry.
As a result, already record high defense spending has reached GEL 1.495 billion (over USD 906 million).
Finance Minister Nika Gilauri said at the Parliament?s session on November 6 that the current increase in budget spending was made possible as a result of additional revenues. Amendment was discussed in near-empty chamber of the parliament.
A part of increased spending ? GEL 75, 8 million and GEL 28 million ? which will be allocated to the Ministry for Labor, Healthcare and Social Issues and the Ministry of Agriculture, respectively, will be used for the state-funded social assistance program.
Other additional funds will be distributed as follows:
Ministry of Justice? GEL 6 million;
Ministry of Finance – GEL 11 million;
Ministry of Economic Development ? GEL 1.2 million;
Ministry of Education and Science ? GEL 500,000;
Ministry of Culture and Sport ? GEL 633,000.
Parliament ? GEL 82,500;
Presidential administration ? GEL 2.6 million;
This is the second amendment to the 2007 state budget in less than two months and the third one this year.
