Ruling Party MPs Consult, Downplay Protests
Senior lawmakers from the ruling National Movement party gathered on November 5 to discuss issues related with, as they put it, ?scheduled, ongoing working process? of the Parliament and the ongoing demonstrations in Tbilisi was not the focus of discussions.
The Parliament plans a plenary session on November 6 ? the first one since November 2 when the large-scale protest rallies were launched in the capital city.
?I think it would be unwise to distract ourselves from doing our everyday job just because of protest rallies,? MP Givi Targamadze, the chairman of the parliamentary committee for defense and security, said.
Discussion of amendments to the 2007 state budget is planned. The amendment envisages a further increase in state spending for this year of GEL 350 million, with the lion?s share ? GEL 224 million – again going on defense.
