12-month Inflation Rate 9%, State Agency Says

Twelve-month inflation was 9% at the end of September, 2007, the Georgian Department for Statistics said.

Top level Georgian officials, in particular Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli, have said on several occasions that the inflation rate would be in ?one-digit figures.?

Last year inflation reached 8.8%, according to the Statistics Department. Official figures, however, were questioned by many economists. Lado Papava, a lawmaker from the ruling party, said in May he did not believe in them.
