Tbilisi Mayor: Okruashvili’s Statement ‘Raving Nonsense’

Ex-Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili’s allegations were “the ravings of a frightened man,” Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava, an influential figure in the Saakashvili administration, said on September 26.

“The statement made by him earlier yesterday, was somewhat irritating, because it was made by a dishonest man,” Ugulava told reporters. “But his statement made in the evening was really raving nonsense.”

He said Okruashvili’s accusations were similar to those usually made by “retired Soviet KGB agents in their memoirs.”

President Saakashvili – whom Okruashvili’s accusations were addressed to – has yet to comment. He is in New York and plans to address the UN General Assembly later on September 26.
