Russian Peacekeepers Release Two Georgians

Russian peacekeepers stationed in the South Ossetian conflict zone have released two Georgian citizens detained at the Megvrekisi observation post on September 11. Georgian officials had been demanding their release.

The Command of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces said the two Georgians had been detained and taken to Tskhinvali because of their refusal to provide their documents.

?The Command considers such actions by Georgian citizens a provocation against the peacekeepers,? the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee said on September 11.

The Georgian side, however, has claimed that the two Georgians were detained illegally and the Russian peacekeepers had no right to check their documents.
