Two Georgians Detained in South Ossetian Conflict Zone

Russian peacekeepers stationed in the South Ossetian conflict zone have detained two Georgian citizens at the Megvrekisi observation post, and taken them to Tskhinvali, Davit Bakradze, the Georgian state minister for conflict resolution issues, said on September 11.

?We demand the immediate release of these two people,? he said at a news conference.

Bakradze claimed that the Russian peacekeepers, as well as taking the two Georgians to Tskhinvali in an armored car, had also insulted them, which, he said, was ?illegal.?

He also said that the Megvrekisi post had an observation function and the peacekeepers had no right to stop locals and check their documents.

The Georgian side has demanded that the Command of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces set up a joint investigative group to look into the matter and punish any wrong doing.
