Georgia Releases Russian Peacekeepers
Fifteen Russian peacekeepers in the Abkhaz conflict zone, arrested by Georgian police on Tuesday, were released in the early hours of August 29, the Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed.
Georgian authorities said that the Russian servicemen had been arrested after their truck had crashed into a mini van outside their operational zone.
Vyacheslav Sedov, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, however, told Interfax news agency on August 29, that the incident was ?a deliberate Georgian provocation aimed at discrediting Russian peacekeepers? and eventually ?ousting them from the conflict zone.?
