‘Serious Companies’ Bid for Poti Port – Minister Says
“Very serious and leading international companies” have made bids for Georgia’s Black Sea port of Poti, Giorgi Arveladze, the economy minister, said on August 16.
The deadline for the submission of bids for the lease of Poti port for 49 years expires on October 15.
The port will be leased with an adjacent 400 hectares of land so as to create of a free economic zone.
Poti port transhipped seven million tonnes of cargo last year, which is a 9.1% increase on 2005. Twelve percent growth is expected this year. The port has a capacity to handle a total of 25 million tonnes of cargo per year.
