Georgia still wants the UN Security Council to discuss the August 6 missile incident, Irakli Alasania, Georgia?s UN envoy, told Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at a meeting in New York on August 15.

According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, Alasania briefed the secretary general on additional information on the missile incident.

On August 9 the Security Council said it needed more information before it would act on a Georgian request for an emergency debate on the missile incident.

Additional information has become available, according to Georgian officials, following  the issuance of a report on August 15 by the International Group of Experts, involving specialists from Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden and the United States. The report said an unidentified aircraft had entered and exited Georgian airspace from Russia.

Gela Bezhuashvili, Georgian Foreign Minister, said UN Security Council would get a briefing on the August 6 missile incident on August 16.
