Poti Port Bid Submission Extended
The deadline for the submission of bids for the lease of Georgia?s Black Sea port of Poti has been extended from September 15 to October 15, the Georgian Economy Ministry said.
The port will be leased with an adjacent 400 hectares of land so as to create of a free economic zone there. The leasing period will be 49 years.
The winner of the bid, according to the Economy Ministry, will have to establish infrastructure necessary for the operation of a free economic zone.
Poti port transhipped seven million tones of cargo last year, which is a 9.1% increase on 2005. Twelve percent growth is expected this year. The port has a capacity to handle a total of 25 million tones of cargo per year.
