Bulgaria Pledges Support

Bulgaria will continue to support Georgia in its bid to integrate into the EU and NATO, Ivailo Kalfin, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, said in Tbilisi on July 9, after talks with his Georgian counterpart, Gela Bezhuashvili.

Speaking at a joint news conference, Bezhuashvili reiterated that Georgia enjoyed ?the full support? of Bulgaria, which he described as Georgia?s ?good friend.?

?There is a positive dynamic in our bilateral relations,? Bezhuashvili said. ?And especially in defense cooperation.?

The Georgian Foreign Minister said that he had informed his Bulgarian counterpart on ?developments and relations with our neighbors, and also on GUAM, which is slated to become a very serious regional actor.?

?We have also discussed developments in respect of Abkhazia and South Ossetia,? he added.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister said that the resolution model for Kosovo – independence from Serbia – was a once-off, which would not set a precedent for other conflicts.
