Saakashvili Backs Education Minister

President Saakashvili has given his full backing to Education Minister Alexander Lomaia. Speaking on July 6, he said ?it was especially important to do so in the light of recent swearing vented at the minister.?

?I fully endorse the Minister of Education,” he said. “Some people specialize in criticising the police and others in criticising the Education Ministry,” he mockingly told reporters in Batumi. “We, on the other hand, specialize in actions.? 

Opposition lawmakers had earlier lashed out at Minister Lomaia, alleging that up to GEL 40 million had been embezzled in his ministry last year.

Speaking with lawmakers in the Parliament on June 29, Lomaia rejected the allegations as ?absurd.? He attacked and mocked his detractors in an assertive speech, which angered many MPs.
