State to Tackle Unemployment, Poor Service – Saakashvili Says

Because of a skills shortage in Georgia, the state should facilitate the training and re-training of the labor force, President Saakashvili said on July 6.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of a training school in Kobuleti, Adjara.

?Today we have unemployment in Georgia and we face a huge lack of qualified workers,? he said.?It is a paradox, because there are lots of unemployed people, but there are lots of vacancy announcements.?

?Our duty, as a state, is to help employers and job seekers to come together,” the president said. “This school is the first step in that direction.?

Curiously, he said Georgia had ?not a qualified labor force.?

?Just take a look at the service we have in restaurants, in hotels ? it is beyond contempt,” he said.

However, the opening of the school in Kobuleti, he said, offered hope. “With schools of this kind,” he said, “we will fill this gap.?

?Both foreigners and locals should enjoy high-quality service in Georgia; we should be the best,? he added.

Ten other training schools are planned, according to the president.
