Tskhinvali Says Water Supply Restored

The leadership of breakaway South Ossetia has decided to resume irrigation water supply to the Georgian villages of the region, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on July 3.

It said that the decision had been made following ?a meeting between President Eduard Kokoity and residents of the Georgian villages, which took place late on July 2.?

?Irrigation water supply was resumed as a demonstration of goodwill? on the request of the Georgian villagers,? the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee said.

There has been no independent confirmation of the meeting or indeed of the resumption of irrigation water supply.

Meanwhile, Georgian villagers are continuing their blockade of a road leading to the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali. The villagers, for the second day running, are demanding the resumption of irrigation water supply.
