Education Minister to Testify to MPs
Education Minister Alexander Lomaia will appear before lawmakers on June 29 to answer allegations of embezzlement at his ministry.
The Chamber of Control, a state audit agency, has alleged that up to GEL 40 million had been embezzled in the course of implementing various projects last year.
Lomaia, an influential member of the cabinet, has strongly rejected the allegations as ?absurd and groundless,? saying they were made ?just to settle political scores.?
He also criticized the agency’s report as being unobjective.
?I will reiterate that the activity of the Chamber of Control, under the previous leadership, was not perfect from the managerial or legal points of view,? Lomaia said in an interview with the Georgian daily, 24 Saati (24 Hours), published on June 25.
The Chamber of Control has been run by Levan Choladze since May.
