GFF President Elected
Nodar Akhalkatsi was re-elected as president of the Georgian Football Federation (GFF) in a highly controversial repeat election on May 17.
The second election comes four days after Giorgi Nemsadze announced his resignation just an hour after being elected to the position. He beat Akhalkatsi by 19 votes to 13.
Nemsadze?s surprise resignation is thought to have been as a result of pressure from top level government officials. Minster of Culture and Sports Goka Gabashvili, however, denied such allegations on May 16.
The May 17 repeat election saw Akhalkatsi comfortably win, as Nemsadze refused to put forward his name again.
