Abkhaz Defense Minister Resigns

Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh has accepted the resignation of Defense Minister Sultan Sosnaliyev, the Abkhaz leader?s website reported on May 8.
 
Sosnaliev, 65, cited ?private reasons? for his decision to resign. It is still unknown who will replace him.
 
Sosnaliev was re-appointed to the position in 2005. Sosnaliev served as Defense Minister of Abkhazia during the armed conflict with the Georgian forces in early 90s. He is a Russian citizen from the Kabardino-Balkaria republic.


Abkhaz leader Bagapsh hailed Sosnaliev as ?a legendary person? and ?patriot of the Caucasus.?


Bagapsh also said that combat capabilities of the Abkhaz armed forces have ?significantly increased? under the leadership of Sosnaliev, the Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress reported.
