Russian Official, Abkhaz Leader Meet in Moscow

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin met Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh in Moscow on April 30, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

Abkhaz conflict resolution, as well as the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution on Abkhazia, which was adopted on April 13, were discussed during the talks.

‘The sides noted that in order to unfreeze the negotiating process it will be crucial that the sides implement the requirements [of the resolution] calling on the Georgian side ?to ensure that the situation in the upper Kodori Gorge was in line with the 1994 Moscow ceasefire agreement? and on the Abkhaz side to exercise restraint taking into account Georgia?s relevant commitments,’ an statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.
