JCC Consultative Session Yields No Results

A consultative session of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) over South Ossetia, which was held in Tskhinvali on April 19, has yielded no results. No agreement was reached on when working groups should meet, Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze said on April 20.

Antadze said that initially the sides had agreed on demilitarization of the region, as well as on cooperation between law enforcement agencies, which is a precondition for holding a plenary session of the JCC in Tbilisi.

?However, all these agreements were surprisingly thwarted,? Antadze said.

The reduction in the number of checkpoints in South Ossetian proved to be the sticking point for the South Ossetian side. The Georgian side refused to reduce the number and negotiations consequently broke off.
