Moscow Hails JCC Istanbul Session
The Russian Foreign Ministry appreciated the results of an informal session of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) over South Ossetia held in Istanbul on March 21-22 and hailed the readiness of the sides for continuation of the negotiating process in frames of the JCC.
The informal session of the JCC, uniting the Georgian, South Ossetian, Russian and North Ossetian sides discussed the current situation in the South Ossetian conflict zone.
?The participants of the meeting agreed to hold the next plenary session of the JCC in Tbilisi. Particular terms and agenda of the session will be agreed during consultations,? the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on March 23.
However, the Georgian side announced after the JCC session that the Georgian side is not against holding a plenary session of the JCC in Tbilisi, but the sides need at first to agree on a number of important issues.
The press office of the Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues said in a statement on March 23 that joint working groups should elaborate concrete proposals over demilitarization of the conflict zone and cooperation between the law enforcement agencies before discussing these issues at the JCC plenary session.
