Government Unveils S.Ossetia GEL 6 mln Investment Plan

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli signed a decree on February 21 to allocate up to GEL 6 million (approximately USD 3.5 million) for infrastructure rehabilitation and development projects in the Tbilisi-controlled villages of Didi Liakhvi and Patara Liakhvi Gorges of the South Ossetian conflict zone.
 
According to the decree, GEL 1.84 million will be allocated to bring gas lines to homes in the Didi Liakhvi villages of Tamarasheni, Achabeti, Kurta, Kheiti, Dzartsemi and Kemerti.


GEL 1.4 million will be allocated to bring gas to the Patara Liakhvi villages of Eredvi, Argvitsi, Prisi, Ksuisi, Zardiaantkari and Disevi.


An additional GEL 700 thousand will go to bringing gas to villages in the Prone Gorge, including Avnevi and Nuli.
 
GEL 1.05 million is envisaged for rehabilitation of the water supply system in the villages of Kekhvi and Tamarasheni.

GEL 1 million will be allocated for outdoor illumination in the Didi Liakhvi and Patara Liakhvi Gorges, as well as for the purchase land necessary for the construction of an entertainment park and a sport hall in the village of Tamarasheni.
 
?We are doing our best to provide conditions there that will help locals not feel isolated and left alone,? President Saakashvili said at a news conference on February 23.


?Our major goal is to prevent the escalation of tensions, on the one hand, and on the other hand our goal is the absorption of the population [living in the conflict areas],? he added.
