Tskhinvali Says No Agreement on Informal JCC Session
It has not yet been decided whether an informal session of the quadripartite Joint Control Commission (JCC) will be held, as Tbilisi has not yet confirmed its readiness to meet conditions set forth by Tskhinvali, South Ossetian chief negotiator Boris Chochiev said in a letter sent to the JCC co-chairmen and Head of OSCE Mission to Georgia, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on February 21.
The South Ossetian side said on February 14 that it will participate in an informal meeting of the JCC in Istanbul if at the meeting the sides negotiate a date, venue and agenda of the next plenary session of the JCC. The Georgian side, which is trying to lower the profile of the JCC, wants an informal ?information session,? and refraining from participatinng in a plenary session.
Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze, co-chairman of the JCC for the Georgian side, was in Tskhinvali on February 20 to negotiate the issue with the South Ossetian side.
