Tbilisi Calls for ‘Direct Dialogue’ with Sokhumi
During the UN-led Georgian-Abkhaz talks held in Geneva on February 12-13, Tbilisi offered Sokhumi to hold “a direct dialogue” in order to provide a full-scale settlement of the conflict, the Office of the Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues reported.
During the Geneva talks the Georgian delegation was led by State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze, while the Abkhaz delegation was led by de facto Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba.
The meeting was held under the auspices of the UN Secretary General’s Group of Friend on Georgia, which brings together diplomats from Germany, France, Great Britain, Russia and the United States.
The Georgian side pushed for opening a Human Rights Office in the Gali district of breakaway Abkhazia, as well as for introducing an international police component and returning of refugees and internally displaced persons to the entire territory of Abkhazia, according to the State Minister’s Office.
