Opposition MPs Urge Legislative Guarantees for Property Rights
A group of opposition lawmakers have demanded that the authorities develop a package of legislative amendments guarantying property rights, as well as to announce financial amnesty and introduce an independent arbitration system.
?These measures will stop the violence that is taking place today in relation to property rights,? Koka Guntsadze, a non-partisan opposition lawmakers said at a news conference on February 8.
?This legislative package should clearly define that property is untouchable, and it should bind hand and foot those officials who are actively involved in taking away other?s property,? Gia Tortladze, a non-partisan opposition MP, said at the same news conference.
Lawmakers from the ruling National Movement party have described the opposition MPs’ calls as ?plagiarism,? as the authorities are already planning to initiate such a proposal.
Opposition lawmakers who met President Saakashvili on February 6 revealed after the talks that the president plans to initiate a bill that will provide additional property rights guarantees.
