Imedi TV Launches New Talk Show

Tbilisi-based Imedi television, co-owned by financial tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili and Rupert Murdoch?s News Corporation, launched a new daily political talk show on February 5.

The inaugural program was hosted by anchor Eka Khoperia, who moved to Imedi TV after quitting competitor station Rustavi 2 last July after accusing authorities of mounting pressure on her.

The talk show, On the Air, will also be hosted by Imedi TV veteran anchors Inga Grigolia and Giorgi Targamadze.

Chairman of the Supreme Court Kote Kublashvili was among the first guests interviewed by the TV program from a new studio, the design of which somewhat resembles that of BBC?s HARDtalk. Anchor Eka Khoperia asked some difficult questions about allegations that the judiciary system is under the authorities influence, and about the controversial trial of the high-profile murder case of Sandro Girgvliani, but the chairman of the Supreme Court declined to comment on concrete cases and trials.

Nino Kadagidze-Zhvania, widow of late Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania, who died two years ago, was also interviewed.

She said that the death of Zurab Zhvania was ?a well-organized murder? and not the result of a fatal accident caused by a faulty gas heater.
