Bezhuashvili: Tbilisi Wants More ‘Efficient Moves’ by Russia

Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said on January 23 that the return of Russian Ambassador to Georgia is a positive step, but he would not “dramatize” the importance of this decision by Moscow.

“This is a very logical move by Russia and we welcome it. However, we expect more efficient moves by Russia that will demonstrate that Russia really wants equal relations with Georgia,” Bezhuashvili told reporters on January 23.

Russian Ambassador Vyacheslav Kovalenko returned to Tbilisi on January 23, four months after Russia recalled him over a spy row with Georgia.

Kovalenko, who was appointed as Russia’s Ambassador to Georgia in July 2006, has yet to deliver his credentials to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

The Georgian Foreign Minister said that he will not be able to meet with the Russian Ambassador for next few days as he will be paying a working visit to Italy on January 24-25.
