Sokhumi Calls for Talks, Denies Refusing Routine Meeting
Authorities in breakaway Abkhazia have denied reports that they are refusing to participate in a weekly quadripartite meeting in the Chuburkhinji village of the Gali district in breakaway Abkhazia.
Georgian media sources reported that Sokhumi has refused to participate in the talks, reportedly scheduled for January 11.
Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Shamba said on January 9 that the meeting in Chuburkhinji has not been held since November 2 because of the Georgian side”s refusal, Apsnipress news agency reported.
These weekly talks, under the informal name “Chuburkhinji sessions,” involve representatives of the Georgian and Abkhaz sides, along with Russian peacekeepers and UN observers, to discuss routine ongoing developments in the conflict zone.
“We believe that this format is very effective for solving concrete problems… And we call for the resumption of these quadripartite meetings,” Sergey Shamba said.
